Metal One Corporation (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshiyuki Watanabe; hereinafter “Metal One”) commenced full-scale operation of Metal X GP, the fourth service* in the Metal X series, which digitizes and centrally manages notification operations in steel scrap trading.

Day-to-day operations in steel scrap trading routinely involve various communications and confirmations with business partners, including notifications of price changes and restrictions on delivery acceptance. These tasks are often handled through a combination of phone, email and fax, creating challenges in preserving and searching historical records and making it hard to standardize business processes. In addition, because many notifications arise unexpectedly, delays often occur in reaching onsite personnel—such as sales representatives at trading companies and recyclers, crane operators and drivers—since information passes through multiple parties along the communication chain.

Metal X GP was developed as a platform to address these challenges. It digitizes and centrally manages previously scattered notification operations, enabling simple, streamlined operation. Its key features are as follows:

1. Digitization of notification operations
Metal X GP consolidates communication channels previously scattered across phone, email and fax onto a single platform, and offers tiered automatic distribution by email.

2. Real-time information sharing
Metal X GP delivers real-time notifications to stakeholders, preventing missed confirmations and communication errors.

3. Centralized record management
Metal X GP visualizes past notification content and response history in a single list, making it easier to handle inquiries and confirm the background and timeline of past exchanges.

Metal X GP was developed in cooperation with MM & KENZAI Corporation, a Metal One Group company, and its business partners—electric furnace steelmakers and recyclers—to help address the operational challenges our trading partners face. The service is currently being rolled out in eastern Japan. Metal One will continue to enhance its functionality and expand the service based on feedback from user companies.

Through the ongoing expansion of its Metal X series, Metal One will drive the steel industry’s digital transformation and significantly enhance industry sustainability, efficiency and sophistication.
