The Steel Plate, Tube & Construction Materials Division mainly deals in steel plates for shipbuilding, construction machinery and bridge construction, steel pipes for use in residences and chemical plants, and construction materials for buildings, steel towers and civil engineering projects. It has an extensive clientele, including shipbuilders, construction machinery manufacturers, Japanese plant makers, general contractors and official dealers.
The division has a strong sales setup for steel plates, differentiated between direct users (mainly shipbuilding and industrial equipment) and official dealers. In its steel pipe business, the division is responsible for sales throughout the domestic and overseas market and for meeting the needs of plant construction projects for materials and equipment both domestically and abroad. Taking advantage of its rich experience, it can meet all the requirements of increasingly diverse customer needs. In addition, the division supplies scrap iron, which is the main raw material of construction steel products, to steel manufacturers. It sells products utilizing its large repository of know-how accumulated by specialized Group companies. Its inventory and processing capabilities are the best in the industry. Sales activities are tailored to take into account the finest details of requirements in each area, from the upstream to downstream businesses. Moreover, the division employs the expertise in structural steel operations that it accumulated in the domestic business arena to assist Japanese general contractors to enter overseas markets and is actively engaged in sales in markets in emerging countries, primarily in East Asia.
