Managing Executive Officer Sakaguchi Gives a Lecture at CISA Conference From Value One Summer 2011 No. 33

Explains Roles of Japanese Trading Companies

Mr. Naomi Sakaguchi, managing executive officer and chief regional officer (China), gave a lecture at an international conference held by the China Iron & Steel Association (CISA) in Beijing on March 25 and explained the roles played by Japanese trading companies over the last half century, among other topics. Mr. Sakaguchi had given a lecture at a trade fair organized by the China Metal Material Trade Association in Nanjing in October 2010, and this time he was asked to speak by CISA, the biggest organization of steel companies in China and the Chinese counterpart of the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan.

At the beginning of his lecture, Mr. Sakaguchi touched on the Great East Japan Earthquake and told the audience of his gratitude for the warm messages and actions of support provided by the Chinese people and of Japan's determination to successfully recover despite the harsh situation lying ahead. His statement called forth a loud applause from the audience.

Next, the speaker explained to the audience how Japanese trading companies, a rare form of business organization in the world, have contributed to the development and orderly continuation of steel distribution in Japan over a period of more than a half century thus far. He then called on fellow Chinese traders to further strengthen their ties with Japan, pointing out that there are many areas in which a Japanese trading company could provide support in partnership with capable and willing Chinese businessmen.

Mr. Sakaguchi's lecture has been made available in print as an article in the Chinese steel trade journal Yejin jingji neican (metallurgical economic internal reference) and is greatly contributing to enhancing the perceived presence of Metal One in China.

Metal One Pipe & Tubular Products Launched From Value One Summer 2011 No. 33

Consolidating Metal One's Pipe Sector and Otofuji

A new company by the name of Metal One Pipe & Tubular Products Inc. was launched on April 1, consolidating Metal One's domestic steel pipe operations and Otofuji Corporation. When the domestic market cannot be expected to expand, the new company is intended to function as a platform that comprehensively deals in steel pipes together with tubular products and to help expand the range of business through this functional enhancement.

By consolidating the three business bases (in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya) of the steel pipe sector of Metal One with the company's fully owned subsidiary Otofuji, the new organization intends to evolve into an integrated player, inheriting the functions of stocking, processing, and distributing steel pipe and tubular products in Japan, which Otofuji has built up in its more than 50-year history, and adding these combined capabilities to the functions of the integrated steel trading company. Through the unified management of domestic and international markets, the borders between which are becoming increasingly blurred, the Metal One Group has adapted its organizational setup to the needs of domestic customers for overseas operations along with the progress of globalization.

The Metal One Group will take the inauguration of this new company as an opportunity to create a unified strategy for its domestic steel pipe and tubular products business, optimize its management resources, and further strengthen its competitiveness and customer-oriented functions and services by enhancing its capabilities and increasing its depth as a group of professionals having expert knowledge of steel pipes and related items.
