Steel service centers serving the electrical machinery industry in China and India are successively strengthening their capabilities in order to expand their respective domestic market shares.

Qingdao Haili Metal One Co., Ltd., a joint venture of Metal One and Qingdao Haili Holding, Co., Ltd. of China (with the former holding a 27% share in the equity capital), has been engaged in the manufacturing of fan motors along with the operation of steel service centers. Responding to the tightened control of energy consumption in China, Qingdao Haili Metal One recently signed a technical license agreement with Aichi Electric Co., Ltd. to enhance its high-efficiency motor production and marketing in China by utilizing Aichi Electric’s high-efficiency brushless DC motor technology. At the same time, the joint venture will further accelerate its endeavors to capture a bigger share of the domestic market for electrical sheets, among other things.

In India, on the other hand, Mahindra Steel Service Centre Ltd., a joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (with Metal One holding a 39% share in the equity capital), set up its second factory, which is a steel service center dedicated to electrical sheets, in Bhopal in central India. The new factory held its inauguration ceremony on February 25. Demand for grain-oriented electrical sheets for large transformers keeps on rising in India to meet the needs of the fast-expanding electric power supply network in the country. The steel service center was set up as a dedicated supplier to (and actually located adjacent to) Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, the biggest transformer manufacturer in India, and it is functioning as a driving force of domestic demand from the electric power industry, which is expected to grow along with the economic development of the nation.
