Introduction of Group Companies
From Value One Spring 2012 No.36
A steel plate melt-cutter with the biggest processing capacity in Japan, Tamatsukuri Corporation is expanding its market share over a wide geographical territory that stretches from Kanto to Kyushu, capitalizing on its ability to satisfy requirements for fast delivery times and small lots.
Second Plant at Tatebayashi Works Completed

Tamatsukuri Corporation started business in 1949, and the steel plate melt-cutter now boasts the top processing capacity in Japan. Mainly a supplier to trading companies and official dealers in the retail sales space, the firm has expanded its market share by capitalizing on its ability to meet short delivery time and small lot requirements. To boost its ability to satisfy customer needs, Tamatsukuri has been building plants in high-demand areas, successively opening new facilities or expanding existing ones in Fukuyama, Fukuoka, Shikoku, Osaka, Nagoya, Tatebayashi, and other areas over the more than two decades since 1990. The company's production network now consists of six works and 11 plants that range from Kanto to Kyushu, with a total monthly processing capacity of over 10,000 tonnes.

The secret to Tamatsukuri's high profit ratio lies in the speedy and fine-tuned service it provides to customers. In extreme cases, the company can make delivery just three hours after receiving an order. That responsiveness is made possible by its large stock of plates—always kept at a level of some 40,000 tonnes—an accurate and high-yield cutting process making full use of computer-aided design, and unmanned night operation featuring 54 NC gas melt-cutters and 26 laser cutters—the biggest array of equipment in the industry.

"The industry's environment is becoming even more competitive," says President Shuzo Uchihashi, who took office in 2009. "Since no single works can fully meet demand by itself, we're working to strengthen the unity of all our works to handle orders. For instance, if we receive a big order, no one works can fill it. Cooperating with other works, however, would enable us to meet the order even with a short lead time." He plans to further bolster Tamatsukuri's ability to make quick delivery, which is now a major selling point for the company.

Tamatsukuri also regularly cooperates or ties up with other members of the Metal One Group. President Uchihashi is positive about promoting group management, saying: "We owe a great deal to the constant assistance we receive from Metal One Structural Steel & Resource Corporation, Metal One Pipe & Tubular Products Inc., and other Group companies. We count on them to make the strengths of Tamatsukuri in the melt-cutting of plates even better known, and in return we pass on clients' needs for non-plate products to other Group members."
