Metal One Steel Products was established in January 2004 through the merger of the Osaka-based NIK Metal Corporation and the Tokyo-based NI Steel Products Co., Ltd., and has gained attention as a core company dealing in wire rods, specialty steel and stainless steel on a nationwide scale. The merger was a key undertaking of Post Merger Integration (PMI) - one of Metal One's three major reforms. Internationally, the new company operates Nifast in conjunction with Metal One. Nifast markets stock fasteners in Europe, the U.S. and Asia, and its network is expanding globally.
Mr. Yoichi Yamane, who took office as President of Metal One Steel Products in January 2005, proudly declared: "The concept of a value chain fits no company better than ours. To take the wire rod sector, for example - our parent company, Metal One, deals in wire rods, wire rod manufacturers within the Group process them, and we sell the resultant secondary or tertiary products. Here you see a consistent flow of business from raw materials upstream to finished products downstream."
The Metal One Group includes many strong wire rod processors, including New Sanko Seisen Limited (based in Kisarazu City, Chiba), Galvart Japan Company Limited (Kamaishi City, Iwate) and Sunrock Oyodo Co., Ltd. (Izumiotsu City, Osaka). It is another major strength of ours that their processing functions can be matched with customers' requirements.
The approximate share of major product lines in FY2004 sales were 30% for specialty steel and stainless steel (combined), 20% for wire rods, 19% for fasteners, 16% for construction steel and steel raw materials and 14% for structural steel for civil engineering projects. The stainless steel business handled by the Tokyo Branch was transferred to Stainless One Corporation (Chiba) in January 2005, and the construction steel and steel raw materials trade was transferred to Metal One Structural Steel & Resource Corporation (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) in July 2004, resulting in a further increase in the proportion of wire rod and specialty steel transactions.
President Yamane emphasizes, "We have to continue to abide by our tradition of 'community-based and customer-first' spirit. At the same time, we will play our due role as a core company of the Metal One Group."
