Galvanized steel wire manufacturer Galvart Japan Co., Ltd., on the same premises as Nippon Steel Corporation's Kamaishi Works in the steel town of Kamaishi, has used its geographical advantage to establish the world's fastest galvanizing line.
Pursuing Efficiency within Nippon Steel's Kamaishi Works
The world's fastest galvanizing line.
Galvanized steel wire with high added value.
Galvart Japan, established in April 2004 with financing from four firms - Metal One, Nippon Steel Corporation, Sunrock Oyodo Co., Ltd. and Koiwa Kanaami Co., Ltd. - built a new plant on the same premises as Nippon Steel's Kamaishi Works to take over the operations of two galvanized steel wire facilities: the Kisakata Factory of the Metal One Group's Sunrock Oyodo in Kisakata, Akita Prefecture, and the Koiwa Kanaami Group's Japan Net Trading Co., Ltd. in Taito, Tokyo. This led to the birth of the galvanized iron wire manufacturer with the most efficient production capacity in the world. The company's main advantage is its ability to have the wire rods that are used as the raw material for galvanized iron wire delivered directly from Nippon Steel's Kamaishi Works, enabling the efficient and integrated manufacture of products from the rods. Also, because the plant building is around 250 meters long and the galvanizing line has been set up in a straight line, the plant boasts the world's fastest manufacturing speed. There are two types of manufactured products: galvanized iron wire and zinc aluminum alloy galvanized iron wire. Both are used for fences, protective nets, wire netting and other civil engineering purposes. Concentrating on the production of these kinds of galvanized iron wire products with particularly high added-value has brought about particularly high profitability. Full production started in April 2005 and monthly production volume is now around 2,000 tonnes. With the acquisition of ISO 9001 international quality control certification in July, the new plant was established with exceptional speed. The company is capable of a monthly production volume of 4,500 tonnes and the plan is to boost overall production to 3,000 tonnes in 2006. President Moriji Ota notes that beefing up sales capabilities will be the biggest issue in the future. "Sales will be handled by Group companies, such as Metal One domestic subsidiaries and Metal One Steel Products Corporation," President Ota says. "Since October last year, we hold sales strategy meetings, dividing the country into three sales blocks and studying other specific plans for expanding sales." |
