Metal One Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd. Kaohsiung Branch
Steel Industry Thrives in Taiwan's Second City
Kaohsiung, Taiwan's number two city, is in the southwest part of the island, has a population of approximately 1.51 million, and is around 1.54 million square meters in size. Located in a tropical monsoon zone, it is where Taiwan's largest, most important port for imports and exports can be found. The Kaohsiung region occupies an important position in Taiwan's steel industry, and you can tour everything from blast furnace steelmakers to rerollers, coil centers, and final processors in one day because many steelmakers and their factories are established here. Making the most of this situation, not only business discussions but also various training are conducted here.

Indispensable Relationship with Taipei
Up to 60-70 percent of the Kaohsiung Branch's main business is, by necessity, exports due to the above-mentioned environment. This expands employees' field of vision and is linked to greater sensitivity to world markets and market fluctuations.
The Kaohsiung Branch is under the direct supervision of Metal One Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd., which has its main branch in Taipei, and the Kaohsiung Branch's ties with Taipei are close. People in Taipei and Kaohsiung communicate with each other by phone and over networks, of course, but since the Taiwan High Speed Rail started its service recently, face-to-face communication has become more convenient and frequent.
As a strategic steel city, Kaohsiung has a solemn image, but the lantern festival held annually along both banks of the Love River as well as the arts and cultural activities there allow people to relax and find romance. You can witness the fortitude of the men of the port city at the dragon boat races held in May.

Abundant Experience and Professional Skill
It was quite interesting to learn about the car manufacturing flow from transactions with Taiwanese car manufacturers. What was particularly impressive was that, although car bodies are coated with antirust coatings and baking enamel, manufacturers still inspect the surface quality of individual external components rigorously and with great care. With skilled hands honed by experience, quality inspectors instantly found flaws that were otherwise invisible. I think that this is the epitome of professional skill.
The Fulfillment of Both Work and Personal Life
Strolling through night markets and department stores, walking along the Love River levee, and drinking coffee are popular after-work pastimes among Kaohsiung residents. Department stores are open till 10 p.m., and 24-hour convenience stores are everywhere, so life here is quite convenient. The Mass Rapid Transit-rapid transit subway systems that link Taiwan's major cities with surrounding cities-recently began operating and, coupled with the recent bicycle boom, has made transportation even faster.
Twice a year, Metal One Corporation (Taiwan) takes company trips and holds club activities, such as bowling, to strengthen friendships among Taipei and Kaohsiung employees and their families while reinforcing a sense of loyalty to the company.
Food in a Nation of Immigrants
Taiwan is surrounded by water, and because restaurants are only a few dozen minutes away from fishing ports, it goes without saying that the seafood here is fresh. Also, during the tuna festival, held from May until the end of June, restaurants that offer seafood alongside cuisine from each province of China can be seen all over the place. The taste and quality of the dishes offered are not inferior to those of the regions where they originated.
One of the reasons that dishes from regions throughout China can be found here is that the ancestors of the Taiwanese people came from various parts of China.
Popular Bubble Tea
Bubble tea is well-chilled tea flavored with milk and containing tapioca balls. Along with the fragrance of the tea and milk, you can savor the tapioca. It is a popular summer drink among today's young people.
You can't beat the taste of tapioca.
