Senior Power Supports Taiwan |
 |
In Japan, "the advent of the aged society" is an everyday topic, but the power of seniors in Taiwan often surprises us. Many top business leaders over 70 are still active, even directly managing factory work, and their vitality often overwhelms us.
In recent months, I have made it a custom to walk in an athletics stadium in front of my home from 5:30 in the morning about three days a week. On the first morning of my exercise, the scene I found in the stadium really astounded me. It was before 6:00 in the morning, but I found around 300 people, all around 60 or 70 years old and dressed in their own particular way, exercising in small groups, doing aerobics, dancing or practicing qigong !
Here in Taiwan, even 80-year-olds, wearing tight pants or billowing skirts, dance in public parks or elsewhere without a trace of self-consciousness from early in the morning. All of them look very happy, caring less about how they look or what others may think of them than, "How can I better enjoy my life?" |

Don't Belittle Ordinary Food |
 |
In Taiwan, you can find all styles of Chinese cuisine, including those of Beijing, Hunan and Sichuan, plus Dim Sum Chinese dumplings or steamed bread, and all as good as in Hong Kong or mainland China.
Yet the food of ordinary people is no less attractive. My particular recommendation is chicken rice. Once you try the rice with steamed chicken, topped with a rich soy-based sauce, it will turn you into an addict. It's incredibly cheap, too - only NT$25 (about ¥85) a bowl. When you visit Taipei , please try it. |

Taipei and Kaohsiung Branches, and Business Investment Affiliates Blessed with Many Wonderful Colleagues |
 |
Metal One Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd. has a total staff of 31, of whom eight are assigned to the Kaohsiung Branch of Metal One Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd. The clients of the Taipei Branch are engaged in manufacturing consumer goods, including automobiles, household electrical appliances and IT items, while the Kaohsiung Branch mainly serves steelmakers, including metal rolling firms. The two offices serve different markets, but the entire staff enjoys a sense of unity since the founding of Metal One Corporation (Taiwan) Ltd., working together on joint projects and sharing fun at year-end parties and on other informal occasions.
Metal One also has two business investment affiliates: Wen Ling Precision Steel Center Co., Ltd. and Y.M. Hi-Tech Industry Ltd. The complex process of setting up factories gave me "field experience" in Taiwan that was quite different from office work.
In this way, my duties in Taiwan have given me opportunities to work with many colleagues and this experience has made me realize that Taiwanese people are very "warm-hearted" and think, "You can only go straight and head on." This means that if you go straight, even if there is a conflict of interest, you can "make yourself understood" and "get something without fail." This experience has given me something for which there is no substitute.
