Nifast (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
Selling Fasteners and Steel Wire for Cold Heading
Creating Synergy by Selling Steel Wire for Cold Heading

Nifast (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was established in February 1997. The company's original role was to bring to China the just-in-time delivery model for automotive fasteners that we had started in North America. In the 1990s, however, few Japanese parts manufacturers had expanded into the China market. Because of this, Nifast Shanghai was at first a wholesaler, mainly of home electronics fasteners. Although more Japanese parts manufacturers established plants there in the 2000s, many customers started ordering them directly, so it was difficult for the company to succeed through wholesaling alone. The company had a lot of trouble during the difficult business era of the middle 2000s.
In addition to selling fasteners, about seven years ago Nifast Shanghai also began selling steel wire for cold heading. Our customers requested quality, fast delivery and stable supply, and because of this we changed our business, choosing a secondary wire processing company in China that Metal One had invested in. Selling both wire and fasteners creates a synergistic effect, and our business has slowly improved. Now our sales are 75 percent wire, 20 percent fasteners and 5 percent other items.

With Amazing Teamwork

Nifast Shanghai is small, but we have amazing teamwork. All of the staff members are very serious and speak excellent Japanese. I am happy to be able to work with them at the same level.
Life in Shanghai is much the same as life in Japan. There are more tall buildings here than there are in Japan, and there are many luxury cars on the roads. I find a few cultural differences in sanitation and management here, however. It's valuable for me to experience these different extremes myself.

Helping Deliver Local Products to Meet Needs

Lately, the sustainable growth of demand for cars and car parts is a concern in China. More and more companies in the country have switched to buying things locally, and using local products and manufacturing regionally. However, the volume in China is still very large, and we believe the demand for Japanese materials and products will get bigger. Most of our customers are Japanese users and suppliers operating in China. We want to continue to use our Japanese sales channels to help them source both wire and fasteners, and help them buy things locally that suit their needs. Our office is in the same building and on the same floor as the Metal One (Shanghai) Corporation. We share information and work with them and other business investments affiliates every day. I believe this kind of support from the Group is essential.
