Beware of taxi robberies! |
 |
Mexico's capital, Mexico City, is one of the world's largest cities with a population of more than 20 million. The morning and evening rush hour is characterized by giant traffic jams, made worse by the fact that drivers do not cede passage to each other. The key to successfully navigating such jams is never to give a single inch.
In the last few years, roving taxi robberies have become a frequent occurrence. The situation is the reverse of that in Japan as it's the taxi driver who changes into a highwayman and robs passengers of money and other possessions. |

While the perpetrators are limited to a small immoral bunch, they are always on the lookout for victims. Thus, not only travelers but also overseas employees need to be careful.
The national character of the Mexicans is both a boundless cheerful optimism and a sloppy romanticism. Existing apart from the rest of the world's adherence to normal time, there is definitely a Mexican time, even to this day. I had the experience of being invited to someone's house, showing up at the appointed time and finding nothing prepared. It took as long as one hour for everybody to show up. |

Mexico is famous for UFOs. Even I saw one!? |
 |
| Mexico is regarded as a prime area for spotting UFOs. Many people here have witnessed shiny flying objects, and even I have seen a flying object that was neither a Cessna plane nor a helicopter while flying over Mexico City. To this day, I have no idea what it was. In ancient Mayan ruins, one can even find sculptures of what looks like aliens making contact with the indigenous population. |

The streets are all clogged up, flights take off late . |
 |
| One time when on a business trip with manufacturer representatives, one of our two cars got caught in a traffic jam on the way to the airport. They had still not arrived by departure time, so I waited for them and acted as a barricade at the departure gate, enabling everyone to get on board when they finally showed up. As a result, the plane left 10 minutes late. You never know what will happen in Mexico, so it's important to allow plenty of leeway in your planning, and not to give up until the very end! |

Iguana soup? Mexican delicacies |
 |
Mexico has many delicacies such as iguana soup (looks and tastes like chicken soup), butter-fried ant eggs, deep-fried worms (called "gusano"; found on agave leaves), deep-fried pork skin (chicharron) and corn fungus (called "huitlacoche"), so please be sure to try some when you get a chance. |

Traveling with your family - one of the advantages of being an overseas employee |
 |
| Mexico City and Aguas Calientes have official Japanese schools, and American Schools can be found even in provincial areas. Children have few opportunities to play outside due to safety concerns, particularly in Mexico City. On the other hand, such an environment offers more opportunities, such as going on trips, for maintaining familial harmony, something I think is one of the advantages of being an overseas employee. |
