The Office Is a World in Miniature |
Ten or so staff, comprising four (possibly) native Brits and others from France, Slovakia, Hungary, Cyprus, Iran, Latvia, Sri Lanka, and Japan, sit next to one another, making Metal One UK quite a cosmopolitan office.
Similarly, inside the cars of the subway used for the daily commute (called the Tube, the world's first subway, which began service in London in 1863) the air is filled with the lively sounds of many different languages, and if you go by the numbers, there are far more foreign passengers than British. I am regularly impressed by the depth of tolerance found in this city, how different nationalities and religions are accepted without discrimination, how the diverse value systems that arise from different cultures are mutually respected, and how all of these are flexibly converted into the city's overall vitality.

London, Now a City for Gourmets |
| Mention London, and the common response is that its cost of living is high and its food lousy. Although prices are as high as ever in the city center, I think that London's reputation for bad food is a thing of the past. EU expansion has opened up the opportunity for many people to actively travel to other countries throughout Europe, and talented cooks crossing the Channel has meant that you frequently come across restaurants serving delicious fare in London. You can go directly to authentic Japanese restaurants or pubs if you start to miss Japanese food while in London, but I recommend going to a Szechuan restaurant in Chinatown, near Soho. It is the perfect spot to spend an enjoyable time over any number of spicy dishes as well as beer with easygoing pals. Also, although opinions about the taste vary, you should give the typical British dish of fish and chips a try once with the local beer. |

London 2012 Olympic Games |
| The next Summer Olympics are scheduled to be held in London from July to August 2012, 64 years since the last time the city hosted the Games in 1948. East of downtown London, stadium construction is steadily progressing at the venue, the Olympic Park, and advance ticket sales are scheduled to commence this year even though the event is two years down the road. It might be that Londoners are caught up in all the excitement or just that they love a party, but their interest is already increasing. |

Wonderful View from the Giant London Eye Ferris Wheel |
| The London Eye is a mammoth Ferris wheel in Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank of the Thames. It is 135 meters tall and can be seen from Metal One's office on the top floor of an eight-story building. Since its arrival in 2000 as part of the millennium projects, it has become a famous tourist attraction popular among visitors to the city. Unlike Japanese Ferris wheels, each capsule on the London Eye carries an amazing 25 people. One complete revolution takes approximately 30 minutes, and the view from the top is spectacular. |
