Manesar Steel Processing (India) Private Ltd.
Automotive Steel Sheet Processing Center Began Operations Last Summer
Specializing in Meeting Maruti Suzuki's Demand

Automotive steel sheet processing center Manesar Steel Processing (India) Private Ltd. (MSP) was established in September 2010 in India as a joint venture among Metal One, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Maruti Suzuki India Limited—a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor that holds the top share in India's passenger vehicle market—and JFE Shoji Trade Corporation. MSP began processing operations in August 2011. Located in a components plant park next to the Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant on the outskirts of New Delhi, the approximately 8,000-square-meter plant is situated on a nearly 315,000-square-meter site and has 50 employees as of February 2012. The plant runs a large slitter line and leveler line, two mini leveler lines, and two shearing lines.
Undertaking processing that focuses on meeting demand from Maruti Suzuki has pushed up MSP's monthly shipping volume to around 6,000 tonnes as of February 2012. Production and operational efficiency are being improved daily in an effort to reach the target of shipping more than 10,000 tonnes a month.

The MSP plant takes up approximately 8,000 square meters

Preparing for Massive Increases in Demand
According to a research organization's report, total domestic new car sales exceeded the 3 million mark for the first time in India in 2010. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers expects striking increases in production, with forecasts of more than 5 million vehicles in 2015 and over 9 million in 2020.
Maruti Suzuki began production in this expanding market as a state car manufacturer in 1981. Remaining at the top of the Indian market, it became a Suzuki Motor subsidiary in 2002. By fiscal 2010, it had increased annual production to 1.27 million vehicles.
Meanwhile, turning to the automotive steel sheet market, projections are that the shift to regional procurement and away from Japanese and South Korean imports will continue as Indian blast furnace operators expand their manufacturing capabilities of high-grade sheets. Furthermore, bearing in mind that India will be exporting fully-assembled vehicles, the view is that trend to use galvanized sheets for rustproofing and high tensile strength steel sheets for fuel efficiency (weight reduction) and safety measures will also accelerate.
It is in this sort of market—of which Maruti Suzuki holds around half—that we have established a sheet-processing center next to the company's plant. We are also adding new capabilities and services to imports from Japan, and develop operations closely aligned with our customers.
Repeated Surprises and New Discoveries

Ask people who have visited India or have been there as liaison representatives if they like the country, and the answers are split between two extremes of love and hate. Why is that?
Far from the East or West—although Indians would no doubt say that they are far from India—India has ceaselessly followed its own path culturally and historically, clearly distinct from the scrap-and-build capitalism of the West.
While India holds direct elections that involve 700 million people as the world's largest democracy, the country apparently has no comprehensive household census. Plenty of oily food is consumed despite widespread vegetarianism, and slums can be seen from the rear windows of the skyscrapers that are being built one after another. On the road, Bentleys roar past auto rickshaws packed with 16 people.
Common sense and preconceived notions are overturned daily here. Along with experiencing the repeated joys of surprises and new discoveries, you might achieve the "state of nothingness." Why not try it once? Whether you like the country or not is up to you.
