People at Metal One Hong Kong also seek good luck through geomancy |
Geomancy has now become very popular in Japan, too. In Hong Kong, it has been an established part of people's lives since ancient times.
For instance, it has a place in the construction of high-rise buildings and hotels. They say a geomancer is consulted in the final stages of planning no matter how authoritative the architect may be. It's been said that the opening date of Hong Kong Disneyland, scheduled for September this year, was determined through a geomancy prophecy.
At Metal One Hong Kong, the staff relocated the clocks in the office and rearranged some leafy plants following a geomancer's advice at the end of last year. We are sure geomancy will bring about great successes in our business. |

Freezing interiors are an expression of Hong Kong's hospitality |
| In subtropical Hong Kong, the humidity in summer is stifling, beyond comparison with Japan's summer climate. Yet, as soon as you step into an office building or get on the subway or a bus, you will feel the flow of freezing air. So, even in summer, a long-sleeved jacket is a must. Even in winter, air conditioning is used extensively in offices and everywhere else. If you expect to find heating and wear only light clothes under your coat, you will be shivering all day. In Hong Kong, air from air conditioners is synonymous with fresh air. Freezing air seems to be an expression of hospitality. |

Hong Kong delicacies - there is no better medicine than good food! |
Chinese delicacies are said to consist of "anything that flies but an aircraft" and "anything with four legs but a desk." Eating is such an integral part of life in Hong Kong that you may wonder, "Isn't the whole town just a huge restaurant?"
You may order a dish where the Chinese characters (in Japanese) mean "clam" only to find it is frog fat, or another written on the menu in Japanese as "herb jelly" that turns out to be tortoise jelly. You may be told what's in the food you ordered only after you have eaten it, and feel a cold sweat running down your back. Yet Chinese cooking embodies the idea that "Good food functions like medicine." These items must be good for your health in one way or another.

| Speaking about delicacies, fengzhao (steamed chicken feet) and niu shi (stewed cow guts) are among the best known dim sum. In addition, whole-roasted pigeon and snake soup are also popular. |

Weekend hiking takes you to another Hong Kong |
When you hear about Hong Kong, you may imagine a forest of skyscrapers, but did you know you can also find and enjoy a wealth of natural greenery just outside the town?
Hong Kong has so many good hiking trails. One of them will lead you to Victoria Peak, famous for the million-dollar night view it commands, just a half-hour's walk from your home. Or you can reach one of over 200 outlying islands within a half-hour by ferry from downtown Hong Kong.
With such an environment, my favorite weekend pastimes in Hong Kong since I came to work here have been walking along the hiking trails with my Chihuahua or visiting one of the outlying islands and enjoying the delicious seafood. More recently, I have joined a volunteer group that protects dogs from harm, and now enjoy mountain walking together with fellow members of many different nationalities.
| Just off the town and uphill a bit, you can experience this superb landscape! |
| I also recommend spending time in the rich natural environment of one of the outlying islands, such as Lamma Island, Cheung Chau Island or Lantau Island. |
