Dubai Loves to Be World Number One |
Dubai loves to be world number one in everything. However, I find the boldness of holding opening ceremonies while construction is still ongoing astonishing. Along with more than 1,200 shops, the Dubai Mall, the world's largest shopping mall that opened in October 2008, has an ice skating rink, a huge aquarium tank, and a gold souk (a market selling gold products) and has become an established tourist spot, but there are still shops here and there with Coming Soon signs posted. In the case of Dubai Metro, the world's longest unmanned metro line, which opened on September 9, 2009, only 10 of its 29 stations can currently be used.
Additionally, Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building (at 818 meters), which will have the world's first Armani Hotel as a tenant, is under construction. The opening was scheduled for December 2, Dubai's national foundation day, but has been postponed to January 4, 2010. There is a tendency to rush announcements out here. We shall see if they are actually on time this time….

Going All Out in Work and Sport |
Dubai's midsummer temperature sometimes reaches 50°C and the humidity 100%. I like sports and began playing golf in Dubai. I am now able to play a round in the scorching midsummer heat. Incidentally, including Emirates Golf Club, site of the Dubai Desert Classic, there are numerous high-level golf courses.
Recently, I have been playing not only golf but also rugby, which I have been crazy about since my school days. Rugby originated in England, and there are several rugby clubs in Dubai because it was formerly a British protectorate. When I learned that, I joined a club straight away. Banging up against big-boned Europeans and running about, I sometimes feel my life is in danger due to the uncommon amount of sweat.
I have resolved to be diligent so as not to be bested by the Europeans in business or rugby.

Desert Arabian Nights |
In Dubai, you can enjoy riding a camel and strolling while watching the sunset at a campsite in the barren desert, eat delicious Arab cuisine while viewing belly dancing, or enjoy a water pipe. The ability to escape the daily din to experience an Arabian night is another type of luxurious interlude unique to Dubai.
Moreover, you can eat food from all around the world in Dubai, which is another of its charms.

Handling Steel Products throughout the Mideast |
Our office is in charge of the steel business for the entire Middle East. Most of the staff often travels on business, and I spend more than half of each month traveling to the various countries of the Mideast, including Saudi Arabia, Syria, Oman, Qatar, and Iran, on business. Although within the same Middle East area, I am able to get a sense of the individual cultural and historical differences when I come into contact with people from their respective regions.
The situation is complicated in the Middle East, and people think that this area is especially strife-torn. However, the people of all Mideast countries unmistakably share a common wish for peace.
