Coilplus Canada Inc.
Twenty-Five Years of Supplying Canada's Automotive Market
Now Under the Coilplus Umbrella
CAMI Automotive

Located in Ingersoll, Ontario, our company changed its name from Metal One Canada Corporation to Coilplus Canada Inc. on January 2 this year. Our shareholding firm is now Chicago's Coilplus Inc. We have supplied products to Canada's automotive market in various forms for a quarter of a century. With the company name changing, the role we play from here on will also change for the better. Now that we are under the Coilplus umbrella, we will increase efforts to work with U.S. service center networks.
Historically, our company's key market focus was to control all aspects (inventory, procurement, quality and processing) of steel supply to CAMI Automotive. Approximately five years ago, Suzuki Motor Corporation exited the CAMI relationship with General Motors Company, and at that point CAMI's Ingersoll operations became a wholly owned and operated GM assembly plant. Because of these changes at our key customer, we had to evolve and alter our practices while holding firm to our core principles and skill sets. The Metal One Group acts as GM's largest service supplier in both the Mexican and Canadian marketplaces. The identity change best suits our evolution in pursuing future supply relationships within the U.S. market with GM.
Aside from supplying the majority of the steel used at the GM Ingersoll assembly plant—where approximately 256,000 units of the Chevrolet Equinox and 113,000 GMC Terrain SUVs were produced in 2013—the reinvigoration of our identity is enabling a new marketing launch to supply steel to other automotive as well as non-automotive firms. Although the province of Ontario has seen a shrinking amount of manufacturing over the past decade, expansion into the Canadian market has potential as smaller and less financially stable service centers merge or cease to exist. Although we supply around twenty thousand tonnes of steel per month to GM-related operations, we believe there is more potential. In 2014, we will invest our resources to develop a wide range of businesses in the Canadian market.
As Ingersoll is approximately 220 kilometers from the U.S. border in the central part of Southwestern Ontario, Canada, we are in the heart of the Canadian manufacturing and automotive sector. Essar Steel Algoma Inc., U.S. Steel Canada, and ArcelorMittal Dofasco are all key mill supply points within the province of Ontario as well. We hope to expand business to other provinces within Canada, namely Quebec, Alberta and the Maritime provinces.

Richly Cosmopolitan Canada
Mention Canada and people undoubtedly think of snowy scenery, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, maple syrup, vast natural resources, hockey and friendly Canadian smiles. We have a lot more to offer, however.
For example, the Greater Toronto Area is Canada's largest metropolitan region, with a population of over six million, making it the fourth-largest city in North America. However, it is not widely known that foreigners account for more than half the city's population—a larger percentage than in New York City or Los Angeles—which displays the immigrant-friendly social structure of the country.
Canada has had a tremendous impact on the history of sports other than hockey (we just call it hockey, not "ice hockey") as well. A Canadian physical education teacher, Dr. James Naismith, devised the game of basketball in the late nineteenth century. Moreover, records show that a game close to today's baseball was played in Beachville, about ten kilometers from our company's site in Ingersoll, for the first time in North America in 1838.
A Local Specialty from a Familiar Name
I must finish this article with a mostly unknown (but tasty!) Canadian cuisine. Have you heard of the McDonald's McLobster sandwich? It is a very popular sandwich in eastern Canada, where you can purchase a sandwich with fresh lobster in the summer from the famous McDonald's restaurant franchise. Served cold with salad dressing and onion on a bun, it's a great summertime treat if you can find one!
