Metal One Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; president: Moriji Kanada) is pleased to announce that Hanoi Metal One Steel Center Co., Ltd. (HAMOS), a steel sheet processor in northern Vietnam, has begun operations. The company was set up with $5.5 million (approximately ¥600 million) in capitalization last fall as Metal One's first coil center in Vietnam.
With a processing capacity of 3,000 tonnes per month, the plant will mainly be slitting surface treated sheets and supplying Japanese electric-appliance factories. At the same time, the intention is to increase cold rolled coil processing from here on out to meet the wide range of demand for steel sheets in Vietnam, where growth is expected to be high.
Phuc Dien Industrial Zone, where the plant was built, is situated east of Hanoi, right between the capital city of Hanoi and the city under central authority, i.e., Hai-phong. This advantageous geographical location will be used to support Japanese companies that are expected to start investing presently. Metal One has established coil centers in Malaysia, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian countries. HAMOS is its eighth center in Southeast Asia. Making the most of the expertise it has cultivated over the years, Metal One will provide high-value-added services to Vietnam's expanding domestic steel market.
