Three Japanese companies set up NC Network China in Shanghai in April 2003 in conjunction with China.com Limited, a member of the Xinhua News Agency group, a state-owned wire service which operates the largest website in China. On August 20, 2003, the new company started operation of the membership-based website to support Chinese and Japanese manufacturing industries. The three companies are: NC Network Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasuo Uchihara); Metal One Corporation, a company established by combining the steel product divisions of Mitsubishi Corporation and Nissho Iwai Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and COO: Masashi Mizutani); and Mitsubishi Corporation (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Mikio Sasaki).
NC Network (the website in Japan), where more than 12,000 Japanese small and medium-size manufacturing enterprises are registered and which is active as the largest business community for Japanese small and medium-size manufacturing enterprises, is linked in operation with NC Network China (the website in China). This linking provides solid backup for cooperation between Japanese and Chinese small and medium-size manufacturing enterprises and assists Japanese companies expand their factories to China, locate Chinese cooperative factories, and develop a market for their products in China. By using these websites, Japanese small and medium-size manufacturers will have a chance to find Chinese partners or promote their products to major Chinese manufacturing companies. Chinese small and medium-size manufacturing enterprises also can expand their own business opportunities and those of their Japanese partners through cooperation with Japanese small and medium-size manufacturing enterprises. These websites also serve Japanese major manufacturing companies as effective tools with which to find reliable cooperative factories in China, including those that are Japanese-affiliated.
NC Network Co., Ltd. operates an e-marketplace participated in by more than 12,000 small and medium-size manufacturers of parts for household electrical appliances, OA equipment, motor vehicles, machinery, etc. Here a "factory search engine" to find a new cooperative factory and a "bulletin board" that carries information about orders placed and orders received are used actively. By using the tool called "Internet," NC Network Co., Ltd. has arranged a great many inter-company tie-ups that transcend affiliate and regional borders.
Japanese small and medium-size manufacturing enterprises registered with NC Network (the website in Japan) are greatly affected by the transfer of production activities to China by major manufacturing companies, which are their customers. There are a great many registered member companies, however, that accept the economic crisis as a new business chance. They consider China, which is expanding as a production base for the world, to be a new market or a competitive business partner, and are joining hands with Chinese enterprises with a forward-looking attitude.
For example, about 200 companies out of the NC Network member corporations already have factories in China, and many others are studying plans to construct factories in that country. For Japanese small, medium-size and second-tier manufacturing companies that want to form business relations with China, NC Network China system is a powerful support platform.
By pushing forward with such endeavors, Metal One Corporation intends to widen business opportunities in China and expand the production of steel products there even further. Mitsubishi Corporation is considering a plan to use this website as a platform of corporate information in China.
Metal One Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation will promote the use of NC Network China for their respective bases in China and the customers of their affiliated companies. China.com Limited, a member of the Xinhua News Agency group, will support the market development activities by NC Network China, the website in China, for its 240,000 member corporations as a promoting partner.
NC Network Corporation will muster the strengths of manufacturers with diverse characteristics -including Japanese small and medium-size manufacturing enterprises, which have great technological prowess - and their Asian counterparts, which are cost competitive and strong as mass producers, and start the challenging task of completing a globally acceptable network.
